Description
"FERN. DOMINGUEZ", 16th CENTURY
A remarkable anvil by a master blacksmith
Made of solid wrought iron and bearing the signature mark of the master blacksmith Fernando Dominguez, a Spanish craftsman active in the 16th century, most likely based in Toledo or Seville, the centres of Renaissance Spanish ironwork and armour-making.
The presence of a complete signature stamped on the tool itself attests to a master recognised by his guild and proud of his craft. Today, signed antique anvils are extremely rare items on the market for decorative arts and antique tools, objects at the crossroads of the history of technology, social history and the history of Spanish art. Wooden display stand.
Dimensions: 49 x 80.5 cm – Total height including display stand: 82 cm
