Important solid silver statuette
A devotional statuette in solid silver (with traces of gilding) depicting the crowned Virgin, standing on a column in the style of the famous effigy in the Basilica of Zaragoza in Spain.
The Virgin holds the Infant Jesus in her left arm, set against a large, radiant halo or mandorla crowned with stars, finely openwork and chiselled. The statue rests on a tall, smooth, cylindrical silver column, the lower third of which is adorned with an applied cross set with decorative stones in shades of green, yellow and purple. The base of the column is highlighted by a ring chiselled with foliage motifs in gilded metal; the whole rests on a quadrangular, stepped pedestal or plinth in solid silver, with an internal wooden structure. Signs of wear, minor losses.
Italy or Spain, 19th century.
