Important solid silver candelabrum with a putto
Large solid silver table candelabrum, chiselled and repoussé, the removable upper section extending into five highly sculpted cantilevered arms, adorned with large acanthus leaves and sinuous ‘C’-shaped scrolls terminating in circular, flared candle holders and cup-shaped bases with gadrooned decoration. A sixth, slightly raised central finial crowns the composition.
The shaft features a sculpture in the round depicting a standing nude putto, his left arm raised, leaning against a large stylised foliage volute. It rests on a double fluted pedestal. The substantial tripod base features rich asymmetrical ornamentation in the Baroque style, with the sinuous, cut-out base resting on three broad volute feet adorned with stylised shells.
