Description
ITALY, 18th–19th CENTURIES
Elegant stepped writing desk
Made of walnut and fruitwood veneers characteristic of the great cabinet-making tradition of the Venetian region, one of the richest and most creative in 18th-century Italy, producing furniture of great originality through a constant interplay between French taste and Italian sensibility.
The upper tier opens to reveal three drawers with scalloped and domed fronts, surmounted by a moulded top with an undulating outline. The main, serpentine-shaped top is adorned with a veneer of burl walnut and fruitwood. The domed apron opens via a central drawer and rests on four curved legs. Italian Barocchetto period. In need of restoration.
