The Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine
An important period engraving based on the famous classical composition from the original work by Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio. The central scene depicts the mystical marriage of Saint Catherine the Virgin. The letter at the bottom bears the full inscription in French explaining the allegory: ‘Saint Catherine the Virgin is united with Jesus’. In the centre, an engraved vignette depicting a landscape and small royal coats of arms. Mounted under glass in a large moulded gilded wooden frame.
