Description
EMILIAN SCHOOL 17TH CENTURY
The Virgin in Adoration before the Infant Jesus,
Oil on canvas mounted on a circular panel (tondo).
Dimensions: diam. 50 cm
A work of great finesse, fully in keeping with the style of the 17th-century Emilian School (the region of Bologna and Ferrara). This composition corresponds to the iconography of the famous Madonna della Ghiara, a miraculous image venerated in the Emilia region, which was magnificently reinterpreted by great Baroque masters of this school such as Carlo Bononi (1569–1632) and Ippolito Scarsella, known as Lo Scarsellino (1550–1620).
