An Italian painter of the 17th-century Lombard school, Carlo Francesco attended the Accademia Ambrosiana, where he was a pupil of his father, Panfilo Nuvolone (1581–1651). Sometimes assisted by his brother Giuseppe (1619–1703), he received numerous ecclesiastical commissions for paintings and frescoes. In addition to his paintings of religious portraits and secular subjects, he also decorated several chapels in the Collegiata di San Lorenzo in Chiavenna, and a number of his works are housed in the Church of Santo Stefano in Appiano Gentile.
