A French genre painter born in Paris, known for his figures, nudes, portraits and landscapes, he was a pupil of Hébert and Jallabert. He made his debut at the 1865 Salon, but it was at the 1882 Salon that one of his ‘Bathers’ attracted considerable attention. One of his paintings, which formed part of Alexandre Dumas fils’s collection and had been sold to the famous writer in exchange for a major work by Corot, led to a court case that brought Trouillebert into the spotlight, after which his paintings began to be highly sought after.
