A French painter born in Paris and who died in Brest, Georges Alexandre Fischer trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the tutelage of Paul Delaroche. From the very beginning, he found inspiration in Brittany and eventually settled there permanently. In 1870, he painted frescoes for the Coadry Chapel in Scaër, which has since been listed as a Historic Monument. Fischer taught drawing at the Naval Academy in Brest for several years, until his death in 1890.
