Description
EMMANUEL COSTA (1833–1921)
View of Nizza (Nice)
Signed oil on panel
Dimensions: 19.5 x 35 cm
In this view looking eastwards from Carras, the old town of Nice, protected by its ramparts, can be glimpsed in the background. A few ‘country houses’ belonging to the nobility of Nice and some farmhouses overlook the foreshore. Also visible are the fishermen’s huts and their boats, the ‘pointus’ – small skiffs which they would haul up onto the foreshore. There was no harbour as yet.
