Description
VICTOR LEOPOLD BRUYNEEL (1859–?) Bust of a woman wearing a large hat Sculpture in white Carrara marble, signed. Dimensions: 58 x 33 x 35 cm - A Belgian sculptor born in Ghent, he spent much of his career in Paris, where he produced the bulk of his work in the Academic and Art Nouveau styles. Bruyneel specialised primarily in creating female busts, depicting elegant young women of the Belle Époque, often portrayed with sophisticated hairstyles, feathered hats or their hair loose ‘blowing in the wind’, in graceful, smiling poses typical of the 1900 aesthetic. This large female bust is a particularly accomplished and captivating example of his art. The large hat, with its generous and supple shape, is an emblematic motif of Belle Époque feminine elegance and a hallmark of the artist’s style.
