A French painter born in Besançon, who developed a passion for painting from a very young age, Isenbart trained under Antonin Fanart, from whom he adopted the Barbizon style. Deeply attached to the land of his ancestors, ‘Le Bélieu’, he chose, as early as the 1870s, to make it the subject of many of his paintings and to depict the topographical and geological features of the Jura Mountains and their peat bogs.
