A French painter, Impressionist and Luminist with Pointillist tendencies, born in Avignon, he painted still lifes, genre scenes, portraits and interiors. Bonamici is best known as one of Provence’s finest painters of seascapes and landscapes; indeed, he was appointed Official Painter to the Navy on 13 May 1921. He is renowned for his superb depictions of his native region and the Mediterranean, of course, but also of Italy – particularly Venice – Greece and North Africa.
