Description
GEORGES HENRI MANZANA-PISSARRO (1871–1961)
Riverbank with Boats, beneath the Canopy
Pastel on brown paper, signed lower left. On the reverse, a rabbit painted in gouache. A riverside landscape depicting two boats beached on the bank in the shade of tall willow trees, rendered in broad, vibrant strokes of green, yellow and blue, with light filtering through the foliage to reflect off the calm water. Typical Impressionist style, where the fragmented and colourful pastel brushwork captures the play of subdued light, in the direct tradition of the art of Camille Pissarro, of whom Georges Manzana-Pissarro was both the son and the pupil.
Dimensions: 27 x 35 cm.
Provenance: Félix Pissaro, Menton, and the private collection of Jean Eugène Guillaud, Monaco
