Description
GEORGES HENRI MANZANA-PISSARRO (1871–1961)
Four exotic birds amongst thistle foliage
Mixed media in gouache, ink and metallic gold highlights on brown paper, signed top right. The composition features broad blocks of colour outlined in black, in a style very reminiscent of Japanese prints and folding screens, characteristic of the decorative aspect of Manzana-Pissarro’s work. The composition also evokes, through its metallic background and stylised animal motif, the aesthetic of early 20th-century Art Nouveau lacquerware and screens.
Dimensions: 31.5 x 49 cm
Provenance: Félix Pissaro, Menton, and the private collection of Jean Eugène Guillaud, Monaco
