Magpie amongst the fruit against a nocturnal background
Woodcut, in the style of a Japanese print, enhanced with gouache, silver and gold, on brown paper mounted on board, signed lower left. Composition depicting a magpie perched amongst dark foliage laden with red berries, set against a deep black background enhanced by broad strokes of silver and shades of gold, suggesting the play of nocturnal light on the foliage. Executed in broad, contrasting blocks of colour. The mat has been torn away, causing some damage to the paper.
