THE CIRCLE OR STUDIO OF PIERRE AUGUSTE RENOIR (1841–1919) Still Life with Garlic, Potatoes, Apricot and a Terracotta Jug Sketch, oil on canvas mounted on panel. This rustic composition depicts the simple ingredients of a kitchen arranged on a worktop. In the foreground on the right, a plump head of garlic stands out with its luminous whiteness. It is flanked by several irregularly shaped potatoes with ochre-brown skins, as well as a ripe fruit with salmon-coloured hues in the centre. On the left, a small dark brown glazed terracotta jug with a handle completes the group of objects, alongside a few leaves of celery or aromatic herbs. The background, brushed in a very dynamic manner with broad, diagonal strokes in shades of sienna and brown, lends an intimate and warm atmosphere to this table scene. Condition: As is.
