A French sculptor born in Paris to a father who was a painter and draughtsman at the Ministry of War, Louis Albert Carvin was admitted to the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Emmanuel Frémiet and Georges Gardet. A member of the Société des Artistes Français, he exhibited regularly at the society’s Salons until 1933. Specialising in animal sculpture, he used stags, does, lions and lionesses, panthers, birds, wolfhounds and, occasionally, horses as his models, such as the group sculpture *L’Accolade*, depicting a pair of thoroughbreds.
