A pupil of Ferdinand Duboc and Alexandre Cabanel, he exhibited at the Paris Salons from 1874 onwards. A member of the Société des Artistes Français since 1890, he received numerous medals and awards. In addition to his famous still lifes, Cauchois also painted genre scenes, seascapes, gardens and lively landscapes. His vibrant colours and depictions of flowers reveal a strong influence from Impressionist painting. Towards the end of his life, he devoted himself to decorative painting, creating, amongst other things, panels depicting flowers of all seasons for a school in Paris’s 7th arrondissement.
