Description
NAVY DESK, ENGLAND, 19TH CENTURY
A so-called ‘captain’s desk’, in the country style, made of solid wood, blackened and finished with burl walnut veneer, with a structure reinforced by brass corner fittings, a characteristic feature of English nautical furniture intended for officers’ cabins on board ships, designed to withstand the rolling motion and impacts of navigation (protected corners, recessed handles, securely locking drawers). It features three drawers at the front, a drop-down top, a small drawer on one side and a pull-out shelf on each side. Signs of wear and tear.
Dimensions: 83 x 52.5 x 50 cm
