Description
MEDIEVAL TOOL, 10th–15th CENTURY
Made of wrought iron, probably the blade of a hoe, spade or agricultural tool; beautifully crafted and in an excellent state of preservation, the fan-shaped blade with a reinforced central rib and the cylindrical socket attest to a blacksmith who had perfect mastery of his craft and understood the mechanical stresses inherent in tools designed for intensive labour. The black and grey patina, resulting from long-standing oxidation, is uniform and deep. Presented on a Plexiglas plinth, this tool is an authentic testament to everyday life and traditional craftsmanship in medieval Europe.
Dimensions: 46.5 x 14 cm – Total: 48 cm
