Description
ANTIQUE PRUNING KNIFE AND PICKAXE
A lot comprising a wrought-iron pruning knife with a broad, curved, crescent-shaped blade, mounted on an original turned wooden handle; the hammered iron exhibits a dark patina and surface oxidation characteristic of antique iron; and a second wrought-iron tool, with a flat striking face on one side and a tapered point on the other, fitted to its original wooden handle; the blade, with an elongated and slightly curved profile, displays a dark patina characteristic of antique iron.
This is a traditional blacksmith’s craft typical of agricultural or pruning tools used in Europe, with the crescent-shaped blade having remained largely unchanged over the centuries.
Dimensions of the pick: 39 x 25.5 cm – Pruning knife: 29 x 34 cm
