Description
ANTIQUE HAMMER AND AXE HEAD
The wrought-iron hammer with a solid, trapezoidal-shaped head, fitted to its original wooden handle; the flat, sturdy face of the hammerhead displays a dark, grainy patina characteristic of antique iron, with signs of wear from use on the striking surfaces. The wrought-iron axe head has a flared cutting edge and a round eye designed to accommodate the wooden handle; the iron displays a dark brown patina and a pitted surface characteristic of prolonged exposure and long-standing corrosion. Hand-forged without ornamentation, in a style characteristic of utility axes produced in Europe during the medieval period and the early Renaissance.
Axe dimensions: 27 x 13 cm – Hammer: 17 x 11.5 cm
