Description
COLLECTION OF 8 ART NOUVEAU & ART DÉCO PLAQUES A set of eight bronze bas-relief plaques, some decorated on both sides. The set includes a plaque entitled ‘Le Nid’ by the French sculptor and medallist Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1849–1899), one signed by Laurent Gibert depicting a woman and a bird – another medallist active during the same period (late 19th–early 20th century) – and another signed by Pierre Lenoir (1879–1953) in the bottom right-hand corner (the woman with fruit, octagonal in shape), a French sculptor and medallist, son of the sculptor Charles Joseph Lenoir, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes and subsequently at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Another medal by Marcel Renard, (Woman with Birds), a French sculptor and medallist, son of the sculptor Léopold Renard, himself the son of the sculptor Charles Renard, who trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and subsequently at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in Alfred Boucher’s studio. Yet another (Seated Woman Playing the Lyre) signed by Frédéric-Charles Victor de Vernon (born 17 November 1858 in Paris, died 28 October 1912), a French sculptor and medallist who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studios of Jules Cavelier, Jules-Clément Chaplain and Paulin Tasset. These plaques were typically produced by institutions such as the Monnaie de Paris or private foundries, and were often issued in multiple copies. Dimensions of ‘Woman with Fruit’: 7.2 x 5.4 cm
