Description
SET OF THREE PLAQUES Set comprising: - ‘Aux Braves’, a plaque listed in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, cast in bronze around 1918 by Aumont, a French sculptor of the early 20th century, depicting Winged Victory embracing a soldier (a ‘poilu’), holding a palm frond. The museum notes that Aumont’s style follows the tradition of 19th-century French art, using an idealised allegorical female figure in classical drapery to represent the State honouring a soldier. - The giraffe plaque, signed by François Maurice Thénot (1893–1963), a French sculptor and medallist, depicting a design known as the ‘Thénot Animal Group’ or ‘The Jungle Animals’, designed around 1931 for the 1931 Paris Colonial Exhibition. Thénot created a series of 10 single-sided plaques depicting kudus, impalas, buffalo, pumas, giraffes, pythons, a battle between antelopes, lions, elephants and rhinoceroses. - The Mont Saint-Michel plaque with an arched top, a classic French commemorative subject (Mont Saint-Michel being one of the most frequently depicted monuments in French medallic art).
