Description
CURVED LOUIS XV-STYLE CHEST OF DRAWERS
Of a ‘sauteuse’ shape, in rosewood and violetwood veneer arranged in butterfly wings and herringbone patterns, resting on tall, arched legs, the front is elegantly sinuous and embellished with a marquetry decoration of foliage scrolls and flowering stems in light wood, and opens to reveal two drawers with no visible crossbar. It features extensive fittings of chiselled and gilded bronze in the Rocaille style, including leaf-motif pull handles, lock plates and corner finials with volute motifs extending along the edges, whilst the feet and lower apron are centred by an asymmetrical cartouche. Topped with a breccia marble slab. France, 19th–20th century. Signs of wear.
Dimensions: 89 x 115 x 51 cm
