LARGE PERSIAN ISFAHAN-STYLE ORIENTAL RUG WITH HUNTING MOTIF A large rug made of fine wool; the main field, in a dusky pink or salmon colour, features a rich and dynamic scene of a royal hunt inspired by the Safavid period. It depicts numerous horsemen in motion, armed with lances and bows, pursuing prey amidst stylised flora and fauna (gazelles, lions, deer, birds and flowering trees). The wide main border, set against a midnight blue background, is adorned with cartouches featuring both mythical and real animals (phoenixes, lions, does) alternating with floral scrolls.
