Description
Sigisbert-François MICHEL (1728–1811), after.
PAIR OF BRONZE VASES in the shape of ewers with a double green and golden-brown patina; one decorated with a satyr holding the horns of a ram, a garland of vine shoots and foliage cascading down the body, the other featuring a motif of a triton holding a dolphin’s head and a garland of seaweed. Each vase rests on a leaf-decorated pedestal and a square base encircled by a beaded frieze. Set against a black marble plinth.

Sigisbert Michel, Clodion’s brother, exhibited the plaster model at the Académie Saint-Luc in 1774. The Camondo Museum in Paris holds an 18th-century bronze example. A 19th-century example is held at the Wallace Collection in London.
