Description
BURMA, late 17th – early 18th century. A Buddha wearing a large winged crown. Seated on a tall, tiered plinth, he is making the gesture of taking the earth as a witness. All that remains of this fragmentary plinth, with its highly poetic signs of weathering, is the framework and a fixing ring. The chest is adorned with a broad pectoral. Red and black lacquered wood with areas of gilding. Height: 145 cm. Parts of the plinth are missing; beautiful natural wear.
