Description
A set of children’s theatre costumes, including two 18th-century-style waistcoats, a jacket bearing the inscription ‘E.BOSC & Cie, Costumiers à Lyon’ and a waistcoat bearing an inventory number and the name HALANZIER.
One of the two waistcoats is probably made from an 18th-century fabric decorated with embroidered foliage garlands, worked in Beauvais stitch.
19th century.
(signs of wear and stains).
Notes: Bosc was a renowned costume-makers’ firm in Lyon, founded in 1820 under the original name Maison Blod and renamed Bosc in 1850.
Halanzier is the name of a 19th-century theatre director who managed theatres in Lyon, Strasbourg and Marseille, as well as the Opéra Garnier in Paris.
