Description
A headdress from Ponts-de-Cé, known as a ‘coiffe à grand devant’, made of cotton muslin and richly embroidered with flowers and foliage, embellished with needle-lace. The headband, made of tulle and Valenciennes lace, features wide piping at the sides and is flat at the front; it is adorned with a large cotton bow edged with machine-made lace. This headdress has been prepared, starched and is displayed on a mannequin head. Late 19th century, early 20th century. (Good condition; the cotton bow has been replaced and there are slight foxing marks).
