Description
CONDÉ (Louis-Joseph de Bourbon, prince de). Letter signed "Louis-Joseph de Bourbon" to Marie-Françoise Du Bouillonney-Orgères. Paris, 28 January 1757. One p. in-4, address on the back with red wax armorial seal. REPLY TO THE NEW YEAR WISHES OF A DEMOISELLE DE SAINT-CYR. "I received your letter, Mademoiselle, and I was pleased to see your eagerness to share your feelings with me. The best way for you to show them to me is to continue your fervent prayers, in which I have great confidence. I am convinced that you are very anxious to take advantage of the good education you are receiving in the house where you are staying, and I urge you to give it all your attention, and I shall be all the more pleased to follow your progress as I am genuinely interested, Mademoiselle, in what concerns you...". A prince of the blood, Louis-Joseph de Bourbon-Condé (1736-1818) had a military career that began during the Seven Years' War and, during the Revolution, he assembled and commanded an army of émigrés. He was the owner of the Palais Bourbon, the Hôtel de Lassay and the Château de Chantilly, among other buildings.
