Description
SEAL MATRIX engraved with a royal shield surmounted by a crown and girded with the collars of the king's orders, accompanied by the legend: MONT DE MILAN ET DONATAIRES DE TOUTES LES CLASSES.
Brass matrix.
Total height: 2 cm; oval tray: 2.5 x 3 cm.
B.E. Restoration period.
Historical background:
The endowments on the Mont de Milan are a form of hereditary annuity similar to the majorat, introduced under the Empire. These annuities, worth between 500 and 5,000 gold francs, were pledged on a series of Italian properties and managed by the Domaine Extraordinaire. They were intended to endow soldiers and officers for their services or injuries. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, these endowments were abolished. However, under the Second Restoration in 1821, a law compensated dispossessed donees. This matrix is linked to the compensation paid to donees after 1821.
We would like to thank Mr Alban Pérès for his help in identifying the coat of arms.
