The Salis-Samaden family is one of the oldest and most prestigious patrician families in Graubünden, Switzerland. Its origins can be traced back to Andreas Salicus de Salis, born around 1060 and considered to be the founding ancestor of the dynasty. Over the centuries, the Salis-Samaden family held important political, diplomatic and military positions within the Graubünden Leagues and maintained close links with the great European courts.
A branch of the powerful House of Salis, the Samaden (or Samaden/Samedan) line distinguished itself particularly in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries through its influence and aristocratic alliances. The family also established itself in France through the marriage of Anne Marie Henriette Sophie de Salis-Samade (1776-1853) to Baron Michel de Triqueti.
