ISPAHAN carpet woven with silk warp and weft
Iran. Mid-20th century.
Wool pile on a silk ground.
A royal blue field, in which floral and foliage scrolls intertwine, features an ivory and sky-blue star-shaped, multi-lobed medallion. The whole is framed by four cream and sky-blue spandrels adorned with plant motifs. The main ivory border features polychrome floral interlacing, flanked by two old gold counter-borders and two further cream-coloured ones with garlands of small flowers.
