Description
A highly original GHOUM silk carpet
Iran. Shah era, circa 1965.
Silk pile on a silk backing.
A serrated old rose-coloured field, featuring a scattering of small flowers, animals, gemstones and stylised corollas, frames a central, gem-set, crenellated, ivory-coloured lozenge-shaped medallion, with an anthracite centre and old gold foliage. Two serrated old gold ‘Faravahar’ (symbols of Zoroastrianism), with feathered wings and anthracite-gemmed hexagonal panels, frame the composition. An ivory border featuring a series of multicoloured ‘double parrots’, flanked by ‘hunting dogs’ in positive and negative relief. Old gold braid. Superb Caucasian ‘Kabristan’ design.
