Description
A very important KIRMAN carpet
Persia. Early 20th century
Wool pile on a cotton backing.
An undulating, oblong ivory field, covered with a multitude of polychrome flowering stems, features a sky-blue, multi-lobed medallion with scalloped edges, an old-gold and ruby central rosette, and magnificent fleur-de-lis pendants; the whole is set against a backdrop of foliage. Four large ruby-coloured spandrels with arabesques, adorned with multicoloured foliage and sky-blue openwork compositions, frame the whole. Four pastel-coloured counter-borders featuring garlands of small flowers encircle the main midnight-blue border, enriched with sublime plant motifs in polychrome scrolls. A work of great distinction.
