Persian. First third of the 20th century.
Wool pile on a cotton backing.
A navy blue field is set against an ivory counter-field, which is hexagonal, oblong and decorated with arabesques; which in turn frames a navy-blue, diamond-shaped medallion with spear-shaped pendants. The whole is covered with an intricate scattering of small, stylised, multicoloured flowers. Four secondary borders – two cream-coloured ones featuring small ‘Kotchaks’ and two brick-red ones with small flowers – frame the main bluish border with polychrome flowering stems.
