Caucasus – Shirvan. Mid-20th century.
Wool pile on a wool backing.
A navy blue mihrab features three multicoloured horsemen riding amidst floral botehs and other animals. The arches are adorned with small Caucasian symbols. The main ivory border features a succession of hatched ‘parrots’, flanked by two secondary borders in navy blue and cherry red with small star-shaped flowers. A lovely, naive design.
