Persia. Late 19th century
Wool pile on a cotton backing.
A brick-red field, dotted with vases of flowers, features twelve oval marine medallions, each also adorned with exquisite polychrome vases of flowers. Four brick-red and ivory counter-borders featuring garlands of small flowers frame the main seascape, flanked by a series of superb multicoloured cruciform floral rosettes, interspersed with floral compositions. Stylised blue and brick-red highlighting.
