KACHAN carpet (Iran), c. 1975
Wool pile on a cotton backing.
A chestnut-coloured field features an ivory counter-field in a multi-lobed mandorla, centred on a crenellated lozenge-shaped medallion in chestnut, sky blue and ivory, with matching motifs on either side. Four small two-tone spandrels enhance the design. The whole is covered with multicoloured floral scrolls. A wide chestnut-coloured border featuring interlaced stems and open corollas, flanked by two ivory-coloured counter-borders with garlands of small flowers. Serrated edging. Beautiful design.
