Description
A very fine, antique SENNEH carpet North-west Persia. Late 19th century. Wool pile on a cotton backing. Density: approx. 8,500–9,000 knots per dm². A hexagonal midnight-blue field, featuring an intricate, multicoloured stylised floral trellis pattern known as ‘Herati’, serves as the backdrop for an ivory hexagonal medallion with orange foliage. Four wide brick-red spandrels, featuring the same motifs, frame the whole design. A quadruple ivory and old gold border featuring garlands of small flowers and, more surprisingly, cartouches of pseudo-hieroglyphs and scarabs. Colourful and graphically unconventional. H_190 cm W_132 cm Beautiful polychromy. Remarkably fresh colours. In excellent condition. Remarkable finesse. - Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
