A very fine, antique SENNEH carpet
North-west Persia. Late 19th century.
Wool pile on a cotton backing.
A cream field featuring a dense plant-motif latticework, adorned with multicoloured botahs incorporating plant motifs (a symbol of creation and fertility), is framed by a brick-red border with a garland of polychrome corollas, flanked by two ivory counter-borders featuring a succession of small flowers and St Andrew’s crosses. A beautiful, classical composition.
