Central Asia Minor. Circa 1930/1940
Wool pile on a wool backing.
At the centre of a cherry-coloured field lies an old gold, multi-lobed medallion, against which stands out a cruciform, star-shaped, multicoloured floral composition featuring botehs. Four turquoise spandrels are adorned with protruding, ‘flaming’ old gold botehs. This flamboyant carpet features a design with a distinctly ‘Zoroastrian’ feel. Two counter-borders of carnation garlands – one ivory, the other old gold – frame the main turquoise border with bouquets of multicoloured, fully bloomed flowers.
