Description
ABADEH carpet
Iran. Third third of the 20th century.
Technical specifications: Wool pile on a cotton backing.
A curious carpet featuring an ivory-coloured Mughal-inspired mihrab and an unusual format. Indeed, this ‘Moorish’-style gateway to paradise is covered with multicoloured floral stems framing a magnificent vase filled with blossoming flowers. The ruby-coloured arches, dotted with flowers, are supported by broad lattice columns with ornate, polychrome pedestals. A large, concave ruby-coloured central field featuring plant motifs. The frame comprises three borders in brick red and old gold, all three featuring garlands of stylised multicoloured flowers. Crocheted highlights. A carpet of great graphic rarity and harmonious colour palette.
