Western Asia Minor. Late 19th century, early 20th century.
Wool pile on a cotton backing.
Two pistachio-coloured counter-borders featuring floral motifs and vases of flowers frame a wide midnight-blue main border with bouquets of multicoloured flowers. The purple field of this carpet is adorned with two floral columns supporting the plant-decorated vault of the mihrab, from which an oil lamp hangs. Two ‘reserves’ featuring floral interlacing complete the design. (Natural oxidation)
