Description
CÉSARÉE/KAYCÉRI silk carpet
Central Asia Minor. Circa 1930/1940.
Silk pile on a silk ground.
A brick-red field in a pointed ogive shape, with a frieze of small carnations, features two small columns adorned with foliage, supporting a cream-coloured vault with stylised ivory foliage, from which hangs a symbolic floral arrangement. A pink lintel with flowering branches surmounts the whole. Six counter-borders, in ivory and pistachio, featuring multicoloured florets, frame the main ivory border with a series of pastel-coloured corollas, set upon floral stems arranged in a staggered pattern.
