an antique persian rug with a floral design on a black ground
Premium ALEXANDRE LANDRE - PARIS

Estimate €1,000 - €1,200
Description
LILIAN carpet Iran. First third of the 20th century. Technical details: Wool pile on a cotton backing. A midnight blue field serves as a backdrop to a blooming, star-shaped, multicoloured corolla, framed by two exuberant polychrome floral compositions, in which floral sprigs emerge from subliminal vases, as well as by flowering branches. The four spandrels are adorned with polychrome crowned flowers. The main brick-red border features a succession of flower heads set upon a garland of foliage. Four cream and royal blue counter-borders with garlands of small flowers complete the design. A fine example of craftsmanship from the Armenian minority in central Iran.
