Description
A very old, rare and fine FERAHAN MOUSTAHAFI carpet Persia. Circa 1860–70 Wool pile on a cotton backing. A broad midnight-blue field covered with multicoloured flowering branches, reminiscent of the so-called ‘Herati’ motif, serves as the backdrop for a champagne-coloured, serrated oblong medallion, within which sits a ruby-coloured hexagon adorned with polychrome plant motifs and its leafy, arrow-shaped pendants. The main brick-red border features an interlaced pattern of polychrome foliage interspersed with blooming floral bulbs. Ivory counter-borders with garlands and bands of small flowers. Two-tone, serrated highlights. A fine example of archaic style. D_ 207 x 134 cm Restorations. Natural oxidation and wear. - Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
