Description
MÉCHED carpet. (Iran) Mid-20th century. Wool pile on a cotton backing. A cherry-coloured field, covered with an exuberant, multicoloured floral pattern, features a salmon-coloured almond-shaped medallion with a plant-motif cross, framed by a midnight-blue, multi-lobed, cruciform ‘moulded’ structure with multicoloured floral scrolls and their counterparts. Four navy-blue spandrels, featuring undulating arabesques and adorned with blooming corollas, enclose the composition. The main midnight-blue border features a succession of magnificent flowers set against a rich garland of foliage. It is flanked by four sky-blue and ivory counter-borders with garlands of small flowers. The outer trim is cherry-coloured. Signed ‘0h tout puissant’. A magnificent composition.
